Elves week 2

This week our elves weren’t very creative. On Monday the elves reindeer Bella and Jingles arrived. Tuesday they hid in the fridge and the pantry. Wednesday they brought the kids books. Thursday night the Elves decided that it would be a great idea to  snuggle up with the kids.Friday night they brought the kids mini flashlights. It wasn’t a great week on the creative front. We will have to wait and see what happens next week. Tonight the kids and the elves are at Grandma’s house.

Our Elves

Tis the season fr the elves to return.  We have two elves. They are named Holly and Elvin. We started the elf tradition about 3 years ago. I din’t go the elf o the shelf route though. I wanted our kids to be able to play with them and love on them. So I purchased a boy and girl plush elf off of amazon. My kids love them and make all kids of memories during the short amount of time that our elves are here. Holly and Elvin arrive the night of Thanksgiving after the kids are asleep. They hitch a ride with Santa back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. Holly and Elvin go everywhere with our kids. When the kids go to school Holly and Elvin sit in the backseat and wait patiently for them to get out of school.

Sometimes the   elves bring presents and sometimes they play or a make a mess. I get a lot of elf ideas off of Pinterest, sometimes I will use google as well. It really depends on how the kids have been that day and what I have time for. The days that we are really busy or I forget to do something (trust me it happens) is typically when they will get a small gift.

I am going to try to share my ideas from this elf season when I get a chance.

We were out of town for Thanksgiving, so Holly and Elvin found us at the hotel!

The next day they brought a gift of a coloring pack for the road trip back home.

This morning we found that the the silly elves used my computer and some of my pictures. They made a video on elfyourself. The kids thought it was hilarious! Feel free to check it out!

Happy Halloween!

This year our costumes are awesome. My daughter is Dorothy and my son is the tornado from the Wizard of Oz. My husband was Hunter S. Thompson from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I was Khaleesi from Game of Thrones.  My kids won best costume at the VA Halloween party. My husband won best costume at a friends party. I didn’t win any prizes but I now know what I would look like with long blonde hair. All in all I would call it a win.

We finally carved our pumpkins last night as well. The kids did a great job on the little bit that I let them cut with a butter knife. Yes you can cut a pumpkin with a butter knife. Think of the shower scene from Psycho and reenact it on the pumpkin. I now have the seeds drying so that I can roast them in the oven. They are so simple and tasty. Perhaps I will post about how to make them hmmmm. Back to the carving it was fun and the kids love how they turned out.

On another random note… I will be running in a zombie run this Saturday. I am really excited about it and I know that it will crazy fun. I am going to dress up a pirate and I will be running with a few friends. The hubby is going to be one of the zombies. I will have to let you all know how it goes.

And then……I have also signed up for the half marathon in my area. It will be my 2nd time running in it, and my 3rd half. I want to beat my time of last year which is 2:12: and some change.

Have a safe and awesome Halloween!

Tornado costume

My daughter told me she wanted to be Dorthy from the wizard of Oz. I decided after looking on pinterest that I would talk my son into being a tornado. Today we had a Halloween party to attend. My kids won first place because of how amazing my son’s costume was.

Here is how I made it:

I started out with a thing of chicken wire. I bought it at Lowes but I’m sure you can by it at any hardware or farm supply store. I had to use different section to form the tornado.

I used about 13 bags of the fake spider webbing to wrap the chicken wire. I wove some of it through the wire to make sure it held.

I lightly spray painted it gray to make it have the right amount of color.
